The Rotterdam Municipality Executive Committee has adopted the Waterkant urban development plan in the south of the city, moving it to the City Council for final approval.

Set along the Nieuwe Maas in Feyenoord City, Waterkant reimagines high-density urban living through a landscape-led vision. Rather than buildings defining space, a continuous framework of connected green public realms form the backbone of the plan – bringing light, air, and life deep into the urban fabric. The development will deliver approximately 3,740 homes and up to 70,000 m² of social and commercial facilities, carefully interwoven with open space to create a generous, human-scale environment.

A layered landscape unfolds from the river inward, shaping a sloping topography that bridges infrastructure and connects neighbourhoods, transforming barriers into meeting places. A boulevard rich in nature links Waterkant to Feyenoord City's tidal park, creating a continuous stretch of public green space and a new destination along the river. Together with a new bridge, the Stadionpark station, and an integrated network of pedestrian and cycling routes, Waterkant strengthens the connection between Rotterdam's north and south – positioning landscape, ecology, and public life at the heart of the city's future.
