Tue Foged at Building Green: Pushing the limits of low-impact multi-storey housing

At Building Green DK yesterday, EFFEKT’s Co-founder and Creative Director Tue Hesselberg Foged joined the panel “A Circular Biogenic Building System – Can Reality Surpass Ambition?” hosted by WE BUILD DENMARK.

Together with Stephanie Carr (Nordic Wood Industries), Mathias Ruø Rasmussen (a:gain [again]), Dan Johannes Pham (Home.Earth), and Kasper Guldager Jensen (Transformer.Build), the panel discussed how to build six storeys with an LCA below 4 kg CO₂e/m²/year.

This ambition is currently being tested in the Home.Earth housing project in Høje Taastrup C, where the new biogenic building system is now under construction. Early results suggest it could set a new Danish record for low-impact multi-storey housing.

Tue shared: “When the goal is to get below 4.0 kg CO₂e/m², it becomes exponentially harder as you push the limits — and this project is breaking new ground.”

The project is part of the Closing Loops value-chain collaboration, which has given the team time and scope to conduct the deep research and analysis, which is necessary for innovation and rarely possible within standard project timelines.

Developed together with Scandi Byg and other Nordic Wood Industries partners, the Home.Earth building system combines modular prefabrication, EFFEKT’s design-for-disassembly principles, and a:gain’s expertise in industrial upcycling.

The Closing Loops project is co-funded by Danmarks Erhvervsfremmebestyrelse and the European Union.
