Hal 9: Rebuilding the new headquarters for Roskilde Festival

Visualization of the “new” constructions within the transformed industrial hall are made from reused concrete elements sourced from various demolition sites across Denmark.

Hollow-core slabs are salvaged and used directly as the new floor structure. Formerly miscalculated and overly long foundation piles are repurposed as columns. Beams that once supported a lightweight roof – from a time when structures were engineered to their absolute limits – are now laid in quadruple layers to meet contemporary requirements.

The concrete is processed in various ways. Some elements are reused directly for their original purpose, while others are reworked both structurally and aesthetically.

For components that cannot be sourced through reuse, wood is used instead. A recurring theme in the transformation project is emerging, where wood forms the adjustment pieces that are inserted to make reused structural elements fit the required dimensions of the transformed building.

The photos are from the storage area in Roskilde, where the concrete elements are stacked like timber in a sawmill.

The partnership behind the transformation consists of Jespersen Nødtvedt, EFFEKT, Artelia Denmark and Krogsgaard & Co.
