Continuing the conversation: Delhus i Kommunen launches in Aarhus

Despite winter weather that would have kept many indoors, a full room gathered in Copenhagen to mark the launch of Delhus i Kommunen (Shared House in Municipalities) – a new open-source tool designed to help municipalities unlock the potential of shared housing within existing buildings.

The strong turnout reflected a growing interest in new housing models that respond to today’s social, spatial, and environmental challenges. Delhus i Kommunen provides municipalities and practitioners with practical knowledge and frameworks for enabling more flexible and resource-efficient living arrangements – supporting both community building and better use of the built environment.

The tool was developed by EFFEKT in collaboration with Vigør and Lejre Kommune for Foreningen DelHus, with support from the Bevar Mere initiative – a partnership between Grundejernes Investeringsfond, Landsbyggefonden, Realdania, and Dreyers Fond. The project is one of 17 Bevar Mere initiatives focused on developing tools and knowledge that enable future housing solutions within today’s buildings.

Following the Copenhagen launch, the conversation continues in Aarhus, where the next event will take place on 20 February from 15:00–17:00 at Aarhus School of Architecture. The session will explore how municipalities can activate shared housing models as part of a broader transition toward more adaptive and inclusive living environments.

Delhus i Kommunen is open source and available in both Danish and English, inviting municipalities, professionals, and communities to build on the framework and tailor it to local contexts.
