Fabian Lecker discusses Reduction Roadmap at Regenerative Futures Symposium in Berlin

Architect and researcher, Fabian Lecker, recently joined the Regenerative Futures Symposium in Berlin as a speaker and panelist, sharing insights from the Reduction Roadmap and reflections on the role of the built environment in the unfolding climate crisis.

Hosted by Bauhaus Earth, the symposium brought together leading voices from science, practice, and policy to explore transformation pathways toward a regenerative built environment. The symposium kicked off with a welcome address by Carsten Schneider, Germany’s Federal Minister of the Environment, followed by a keynote speech by climate scientist Prof. Dr. h. c. mult. Hans Joachim Schellnhuber who emphasised the necessity of transforming the construction sector from a climate perspective.

The event also showcased key findings from the ReBuilt Regional Case Studies, which drive transformative action by engaging local stakeholders, identifying opportunities, and testing solutions through demonstration projects in Berlin-Brandenburg, Denpasar (Indonesia), Cape Town (South Africa), and Paro-Thimphu (Bhutan). In addition, a Global Study was presented, mapping the supply and demand of bio-based materials for future urban construction worldwide.

Fabian’s key takeaways:
- We cannot build our way out of a crisis driven by overconsumption.
- Climate stability and functioning ecosystems must be thought of as connected and interdependent.
- Cross-sector systems change is essential for the transition of the built environment.

Thank you to Irene Garcia, Emma Pfeiffer, Rina Gashi, and Andrew Borraine for an inspiring discussion; to Dr Gediminas Lesutis for the invitation; and to Tino Imsirovic for moderating. Congratulations to the Bauhaus Earth team on the successful launch of the ReBuilt project!
