Trapholt
The expansion and transformation of Trapholt, a renowned museum for modern painting, crafts, design, and furniture marks a new chapter in the museum's history and a new holistic experience. Our design is centered around a union of art, architecture, and landscape—where arrival feels like entering a place, not just a building, and where the museum and sculpture park come together in one coherent, sensory experience.
The expansion features a new arrival area, where visitors park among the trees and are naturally guided to a green sculpture plaza; an extension built in biobased materials that interprets the original architecture with respect and lightness; and a new sculpture path that connects the park and buildings in a continuous loop – an organic and accessible experience where art, stories, and nature merge.
With every choice, we’ve aimed for low impact and high integrity – from preservation and reused materials to future-facing construction.
