Historic Frederiksberg factory reimagined for student housing
Historic Frederiksberg factory reimagined for student housing

We have been invited to transform the historic Tricotage Factory at Kronprinsesse Sofies Vej 35 in Frederiksberg. Originally home to Henriques & Løvengreen’s Tricotage Factory from 1898 to 1960, the property has since housed a range of educational institutions, including technical schools and University College Copenhagen (Københavns Professionshøjskole).

With respect for the building’s industrial heritage, EFFEKT will create a lively environment where modern student housing and selected ground-floor commercial functions are carefully integrated into the preserved façades and structures.

The ambition is to transform the property into a cohesive and creative setting for students – continuing its long-standing role as a setting for learning, development, and community – where urban life, green spaces, and historic qualities come together.

The project includes:

  • Student housing with bright, high-ceilinged living environments

  • Commercial and common areas for students on the ground level

  • Café spaces opening towards the street and the new green courtyard

  • Green courtyard spaces for relaxation, social life, and everyday urban activity

  • Careful renovation with a reduced carbon footprint, preserving load-bearing structures and historic details while repairing or recreating materials such as brickwork and windows

We would like to thank the real estate developer COPI for the continued trust. The project builds on our shared experience from previous collaborations in Frederiksberg, where we have worked together to bring new life to historic buildings while preserving their character and cultural value.
