Sjællandsk Muld
Sjællandsk Muld marks the first phase in the realization of Hyllegaard Høje — a visionary co-housing community in Hvalsø that reimagines how we live, build, and connect with each other and with nature.
Located just 30 minutes from Copenhagen, the project brings together architecture, community, and landscape in a holistic framework where shared living, local food production, and renewable energy systems form the foundation of everyday life.
Designed and developed in close collaboration with residents, Hyllegaard Udvikling ApS, Almenr Byggefællesskaber, and Enemærke & Petersen, Sjællandsk Muld sets a new standard for cooperative, low-impact living. The cluster houses around 35 families of all ages and life stages, organized in small groups that balance privacy and togetherness.
At the heart of the community stands a shared house — a flexible space for communal dining, workshops, and events. Between the homes, greenhouses, tool sheds, and gardens provide natural meeting points that strengthen social life and support a sense of belonging.
Architecture and landscape are closely intertwined. Each home adapts to the sloping terrain, connecting directly to the outdoors, while generous eaves offer shelter and help regulate indoor temperatures. Built primarily in timber, the homes are designed for disassembly, with solar panels and biogenic materials ensuring a minimal carbon footprint and healthy indoor climate.
Sjællandsk Muld embodies the broader ambition of Hyllegaard Høje: to create a self-sufficient, future-oriented community rooted in nature, cooperation, and shared responsibility.
