Augustenborg is one of Denmark’s most coherent ducal towns – shaped by centuries of interplay between power, landscape, and architecture. The castle, the castle church, the palaces, the Baroque ensemble, and the parklands testify to a town that was once a European center, where city, nature, and representation were carefully choreographed.

Today, Augustenborg still holds this rich cultural heritage, but many of the ducal qualities have gradually become detached from their original context. This is precisely where the potential lies: How can the town’s historic structures, landscape features, and spatial hierarchies once again become active forces in everyday life?

We are, therefore, very pleased to be among the pre-qualified teams currently working to shape Augustenborg’s next chapter. For us, the task is not about adding a new layer on top of what already exists, but about reading the city in layers – and through this reactivating the connections between history, landscape, and urban life. The ambition is to let Augustenborg’s past serve as an active and contemporary resource that can strengthen the town’s spaces, identity, and life in the future.
