SDR. BORK COMMUNITY CENTER
In march 2012 the Danish Foundation for Culture and Sport Facilities (Lokale- og Anlægsfonden) chose EFFEKT, together with cultural design agency UiWE and sustainability experts from COWI, to explore their take on the traditional Danish social gathering space 'forsamlingshuset' best translated as the local community center.
Our team proposed a far-reaching remake of the layout of the house, enhancing social connectivity, identity, and informal meetings.
At the heart of the house is a shared space that includes an open kitchen that works as a social hub.
In the future, the community center is not only a meeting place, but will assume the function of a physical extension of the local individual town living room.
This transformation is part of a strategic development process focusing on community houses and the first in a series that will work as a demonstration project for future transformations of community centers alike under the curation of Lokale- og Anlægsfonden.
The project is funded by Lokale- og Anlægsfonden, A.P. Møller Fonden and local donations.

Existing conditions: Build in 3 stages, spacial segregation and disconnected functions
By clearing the functions from the central zone, new connections provide direct relations of all the rooms with direct contact to the courtyard, a winter garden becomes the social heart of the house.
